Frequently asked questions

If you’ve got a question about The OPT Award, take a look through the list below and see if it’s already been covered, and if not, feel free to click here and get in touch and we’ll provide the answer.

  • Absolutely

  • Yes, definitely!

  • Any provision can deliver this award to anyone over the age of 16

  • Whatever is appropriate for your cohort of individuals

  • You decide what is appropriate for individuals - we cannot control hospital admissions or unforeseen events. Providing the individual has participated as fully as they can, it will be up to the assessor/teacher/leader to determine.

  • Ideally, one strand would be covered each term, but for some individuals due to extenuating circumstances, this may not be possible. They can roll theirs over to the following year if needed.

  • After each strange is completed/achieved the project lead notifies the OPT team who will process the badges and certificates within five working days, and will then be posted second class.

  • They will get the certificates and badges for the strands they have completed

  • No, however, we would like you to showcase what activities you have been involved in and companies/providers who have helped in order to inspire others and showcase what's possible

  • The aim of the website is to use it as a resource for other schools, colleges, alternative provisions taking part. Ideas, opportunities, activity providers etc can be shared to aid planning for those taking part. If there is a provider that has been supportive and warrants a mention, with their permission, we can add that to the website.

  • If there is nowhere for you to have a sleepover, you may find there is overnight accommodation at, for example, the outdoor activity centre where you spend the day of your challenges. Alternatively, the students may camp, or stay in an unfamiliar setting (please get in touch for further information)

  • All of the pupils can join in with the daytime activities/challenges. Those under 16 will not be awarded a certificate or badge at this stage, and will not be able to participate in the sleepover.
